About SHBS Wiltshire
We are a small and personal building contracting company, based in the heart of Wiltshire. Our business has been built upon good old fashioned hard work, values, and the drive to produce some of the most picturesque and challenging building projects in the immediate area.
We work closely with a select network of around 20 sub-contractors who we have built very tight, trusting relationships with over the years. This aids us to deliver within timescales and on budget.
The proprietor Sam Hodges has acquired his trades and skills through working alongside one of the counties finest renowned builders.
His passion for building is clear and his personal manner will make your building project as stress free and smooth flowing as possible.
New Build
We have built a good selection of beautifully designed new build properties and extensions in the rural countryside. Our new build portfolio ranges from moderate oak framed kitchen extensions to maximise the space of a current property right up to 6 bedroom eco houses with rain water harvesting, recycled products, the latest air movement, and heat recovery systems installed.
We work very closely with a local architect and between us our aim is to create aesthetically and structurally outstanding buildings of all designs, inside and out.
Renovation
We carry out a variety of renovation work in and around Wiltshire, from grade 1 listed cottages, to complete house refurbishments in the most isolated locations. Our refurbishment works vary from kitchen re fits to elegant full refurbishment work incorporating modern technology but retaining as much charm and character as possible.
We have a close relationship with the Wiltshire conservation and planning department whom have always been complimentary and appreciative of our ethics and building practise.
Conservation
Every year we carry out a number of very interesting restoration projects. These projects range from repair work, bespoke joinery and masonry to complete overhauls and sympathetic restoration of some of the oldest houses in the local area. We have a network of the best craftsmen in the area which is clear to see, and distinct in the finished project.
We have a good relationship with the Wiltshire conservation and planning department whom have always been complimentary and appreciative of our ethics and building practise.

To give some context to our testimonial, Sam and his team have completed a large house renovation/re construction project for us which took 9 months and involved us vacating the property for the whole time.
We were hugely impressed throughout the project. Sam and his sub contractors are all thoroughly professional, committed and deliver work of a very high standard. This is reflected in the final result that we now have.
Furthermore, he achieved value for money and is completely transparent with regard to costs (we had absolutely no nasty surprises). He is honest in his views to ensure we didn’t waste our money on items bought directly, or ideas we might have had, questioning and working up alternative solutions if he thought we were making a mistake.
He is proactive in finding solutions to problems, our house is 200 years old so a few unexpected issues inevitably cropped up along the way. His knowledge, even on subjects outside of standard house building issues, has been invaluable.
We now have a wonderful house which we love. It was all delivered on budget, on time and with virtually no snags, which have all been attended to with efficiency and professionalism.
